The most important components of non-verbal communication

Non-Verbal communication: It is the form through which our body speaks; the majority of the time, we don’t realize that we use this type of communication, and despite maybe, we are lying with our own words, our body does not hide the real message that we want to communicate. In non-verbal communication, we have the following body language that is part of this vocabulary:

Kinesics: It means the gestures and movements of our body while speaking; we have three types of kinesics which are:

Adaptors: As a result of feeling the pressure, bored or nervous, you touch or produce some moves to relieve part of this sensation; an example of this gesture can be tapping the ground with your foot.

Emblems: Are those signs that we usually learn, and they hide meanings; however, they are different and can have another significance depending on the place you are. E.g: when you put the palm of your hand up and your fingers move backward and forward, in this way we usually call someone to come.

Illustrators: Are those moves or signs that we do through a conversation, as its name suggests are used to imitate our spoken words, we don’t notice that we use illustrators every time we are in the middle of an interesting speech. E.g: when you indicate the height of a person.

Eye contact: They have many purposes, we tend to express and to talk through eyes, with one look we can infer what the other person is trying to say, we also can notice if a person is telling the truth because when someone lies, this person avoids your gaze.

Facial expressions: We can hide our feelings and pretend that everything is okay with our faces, that’s why they do not always express the real emotions; I think that more than once you’ve smiled at a person in the street, well that doesn’t mean that you are happy right, you are just trying to be kind with this being. In the example, we can infer that the boy fears the snake by seeing his disgusted expression.

Haptics: It means to touch, we know that physical contact during a conversation can lead to thinking in different aspects, that’s why we must be careful with these expressions as not all the touching behaviors are appropriate and also it will vary depending on the country and its culture, some countries escape from any type of contact. E.g: Touching a stranger’s face will be weird, but if you touch your mother’s face, it can be an affection sign.
